Allegations of Research Misconduct

The Jurnal Rekam Medis dan Informasi Kesehatan (JRMIK) is committed to maintaining research integrity, transparency, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The journal takes allegations of research misconduct seriously and handles all reports fairly, confidentially, and objectively.

Types of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

  • Fabrication: Inventing research data, results, or findings that were not obtained through the reported research process.
  • Falsification: Manipulating research materials, methods, data, or results in a way that misrepresents the research findings.
  • Plagiarism: Using another person's ideas, words, data, or work without appropriate acknowledgment.
  • Data Misrepresentation: Selectively reporting, altering, or omitting relevant findings in a manner that creates a misleading interpretation.
  • Unethical Data Use: Improperly accessing, disclosing, or using medical records, patient information, or other confidential health data without appropriate authorization.
  • Authorship Misconduct: Misrepresenting authorship or failing to acknowledge significant contributions appropriately.

Reporting Allegations

Authors, reviewers, readers, and other concerned parties may report suspected research misconduct to the editorial team. Reports should provide a clear explanation of the concern and, where possible, relevant supporting evidence, such as documents, data, or published sources.

All reports should be submitted through the journal's official contact channels. The editorial team will assess the information provided and determine whether further investigation is warranted.

Investigation Process

When an allegation is received, the editorial team will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether the concern falls within the scope of research misconduct. If necessary, the editor may request an explanation or additional evidence from the authors and consult relevant experts or the authors' affiliated institutions.

The assessment will consider the available evidence, the seriousness of the allegation, and the responses of the parties involved. Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to concerns relating to their work.

Confidentiality and Fair Treatment

JRMIK will handle allegations confidentially to the extent possible and will seek to protect the rights of all parties involved. Allegations will not be treated as proven misconduct until the available evidence has been carefully assessed.

The journal will avoid premature conclusions and will make editorial decisions based on documented evidence, relevant publication ethics principles, and the seriousness of the reported concern.

Editorial Actions

If research misconduct is established or sufficient evidence of a serious publication ethics concern is identified, the journal may take appropriate action according to the circumstances. Actions may include:

  • Requesting clarification, additional data, or supporting documents from the authors.
  • Requesting corrections to the manuscript or published article.
  • Rejecting a manuscript when serious concerns remain unresolved.
  • Publishing a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction when justified.
  • Referring the matter to the relevant institution or other appropriate authority when necessary.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their research. They must retain appropriate research records, report findings honestly, follow applicable ethical requirements, and protect the confidentiality of patient and health information.

By submitting a manuscript to JRMIK, authors agree to uphold the principles of responsible research and publication ethics.
