Informed Consent Policy
Jurnal Riset Kesehatan requires authors to respect the rights, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of all human research participants. Informed consent must be obtained before participation unless an appropriate research ethics committee has formally approved a waiver.
Consent to Participate
Authors must obtain informed consent from participants after providing clear information about the study’s purpose, procedures, potential risks and benefits, confidentiality arrangements, and the voluntary nature of participation.
For participants who cannot legally provide consent, permission must be obtained from a legally authorized representative. Assent should also be obtained when appropriate to the participant’s age and capacity.
Consent procedures must comply with applicable ethical requirements and regulations in the jurisdiction where the research was conducted.
Consent for Publication
Consent to participate in research does not automatically constitute consent for publication of identifiable information.
Written consent for publication must be obtained when a manuscript includes identifiable personal or clinical information, photographs, images, or case details. Consent must be provided by the participant or patient, or an appropriate legally authorized representative.
Individuals providing consent should understand what information will be published and that it may be publicly accessible online. A relative’s permission is sufficient only when that person is authorized to provide consent on the individual’s behalf.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must remove unnecessary identifiers, including names, initials, dates of birth, medical record numbers, and other details that could reveal an individual’s identity.
Images must be anonymized wherever possible without compromising their scientific meaning. Blurring a face or covering the eyes does not necessarily ensure anonymity and does not replace consent for publication when an individual remains identifiable.
Reporting Consent and Waivers
The manuscript must include a statement in the Methods section or a separate “Ethics Approval and Informed Consent” section describing how consent was obtained.
Where consent has been waived, authors must identify the approving research ethics committee and provide the approval reference, where available, and the basis for the waiver. Authors must not independently assume that consent is unnecessary.
For identifiable case reports or images, a separate “Consent for Publication” statement must confirm that written permission was obtained.
Documentation and Editorial Assessment
Authors must securely retain consent documentation and provide evidence to the editorial office upon request through an appropriate confidential process. Completed consent forms containing personal information must not be included in publicly accessible supplementary materials.
Failure to provide evidence of required informed consent or an approved waiver will result in rejection of the submission. Concerns identified after publication may lead to corrective action under the journal’s publication ethics policies.
