AI Usage Policy

Jurnal Riset Kesehatan establishes the following policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to uphold scientific integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and accountability throughout the publication process.

1. Permissible Uses of AI-Assisted Tools

AI tools may be used to support specific tasks in manuscript preparation, including:

  • Correcting grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.

  • Translating or paraphrasing author-written text to improve clarity and academic expression while preserving its original meaning.

  • Supporting literature searches and research idea development, provided that authors independently verify the existence, accuracy, and relevance of all sources.

  • Assisting with programming, code debugging, or basic data analysis, provided that authors validate the code, methods, and outputs and do not fabricate, falsify, or misrepresent data.

AI assistance must not replace the authors’ intellectual contributions, critical judgment, or responsibility for the manuscript.

2. Prohibited Uses of AI

The following uses are prohibited by Jurnal Riset Kesehatan:

  • AI authorship: AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the work, approve the final manuscript, or fulfill authorship obligations.

  • Data fabrication or falsification: AI must not be used to invent experimental data, participant responses, research findings, references, or scientific facts.

  • Misleading image manipulation: AI must not be used to generate or alter scientific images in ways that fabricate evidence, conceal findings, or misrepresent research results.

  • Entirely AI-generated manuscripts: Submitting a manuscript produced entirely through AI prompts, without substantive human intellectual contribution and verification, is prohibited.

3. Transparency and Disclosure

Authors must disclose the use of AI tools during manuscript preparation in a section entitled “Declaration of AI Use” or in the Acknowledgments.

The disclosure must specify:

  • The name of the AI tool and its version, where available.

  • The purpose for which the tool was used.

  • The manuscript sections or research processes in which it was used.

  • Confirmation that the authors reviewed and verified the resulting content and accept full responsibility for the final manuscript.

Example declaration:

“During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [tool name and version] to [describe the specific purpose and relevant sections or processes]. The authors reviewed and verified all AI-assisted outputs and take full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the final manuscript.”

When AI tools form part of the research methodology, their use must also be described in the Methods section with sufficient detail to support evaluation and reproducibility.

4. Author Accountability and Responsibility

Human authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted content, including data, analyses, interpretations, references, and conclusions.

Authors must independently verify all AI-assisted outputs. Particular attention must be given to fabricated references, inaccurate statements, biased interpretations, and inappropriate analytical methods.

The use of AI does not reduce or transfer the authors’ responsibility for plagiarism, copyright infringement, research misconduct, or other breaches of publication ethics.

5. AI Use by Reviewers and Editors

Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, figures, tables, supplementary materials, or review reports to public AI platforms. Such disclosure may compromise manuscript confidentiality, authors’ intellectual property, and the integrity of peer review.

Reviewers must conduct their own critical assessment and remain fully responsible for the content and recommendations of their review reports.

Editors may use approved tools for administrative and screening purposes, such as similarity checking, provided that confidentiality and data protection are maintained. Confidential submission materials must not be uploaded to public AI platforms.

AI tools must not replace editorial judgment or make final decisions on manuscript acceptance or rejection. All editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the designated human editors of Jurnal Riset Kesehatan.
