Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Jurnal Lintas Keperawatan (JLK) is a peer-reviewed, open access nursing journal published by Poltekkes Kemenkes Semarang. The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement applies to all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

The journal follows internationally recognized principles of publication ethics, including the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the ICMJE Recommendations. For research involving human participants, the journal also refers to the national guidelines for health research ethics in Indonesia. All parties involved in the publication process are expected to uphold honesty, transparency, confidentiality, fairness, accountability, and academic integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

1. Fairness and Editorial Independence

Editors evaluate submitted manuscripts based on their academic quality, originality, relevance to the focus and scope of JLK in nursing, methodological soundness, and contribution to nursing knowledge and practice. Editorial decisions are made independently and fairly, without discrimination based on the authors' gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, institutional affiliation, political views, or other personal characteristics.

Editorial decisions must not be influenced by commercial interests, personal relationships, or external pressure. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the overall editorial content and publication decisions of the journal.

2. Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must keep all submitted manuscripts confidential. Information about a manuscript may only be shared with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

3. Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished information obtained through the editorial process for their own research or professional advantage without the authors' written permission.

Editors must withdraw from handling a manuscript when a personal, professional, financial, or academic relationship may affect their objectivity, and the manuscript must be assigned to another qualified editor. Manuscripts submitted by editors or editorial board members are handled by another editor and undergo the same double-blind peer review as all other submissions.

4. Publication Decisions

All research articles submitted to JLK undergo double-blind peer review by at least two (2) qualified reviewers, as described in the Peer Review Process. Editors make publication decisions based on the quality, originality, relevance, and validity of the manuscript, the reviewers' recommendations, and applicable legal and ethical requirements, including those concerning plagiarism, copyright, and defamation.

5. Handling Ethical Concerns

Editors must respond appropriately to allegations of research or publication misconduct, including plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, authorship disputes, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other unethical behavior. Such cases are handled by following the COPE flowcharts.

When an ethical concern is substantiated, the journal may issue a correction, editorial note, expression of concern, or retraction, in accordance with the journal's Retraction, Withdrawal, and Correction (R-W-C) Policy.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and helps authors improve their manuscripts. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based assessments.

2. Competence and Promptness

Reviewers should only accept manuscripts within their area of expertise. Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript, or who cannot complete the review within the requested time, should notify the editor promptly and decline the invitation.

3. Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review are confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, reproduce, distribute, or discuss the manuscript with unauthorized persons, and must not upload the manuscript or any part of it to AI tools, in line with the Policy on the Use of AI.

4. Objectivity and Anonymity

Reviews must be conducted objectively and professionally. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments, and personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. As JLK applies double-blind peer review, reviewers must not attempt to identify the authors.

5. Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published or unpublished works.

6. Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any personal, professional, financial, academic, or other relationships that could influence their evaluation, and should decline the review when such a conflict may compromise their objectivity.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

1. Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate account of the research performed and an objective discussion of its significance. The manuscript should contain sufficient detail of the methods and data to allow the work to be evaluated and, where appropriate, replicated. Authors are encouraged to follow relevant reporting guidelines for nursing and health research (e.g., CONSORT, STROBE, COREQ, PRISMA, or CARE).

Fraudulent, misleading, or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

2. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are entirely original works and that all ideas, words, data, figures, and materials taken from other sources are properly cited. All manuscripts are checked using Turnitin, and the maximum similarity index accepted by JLK is 20%, as described in the Plagiarism Policy.

Plagiarism in all its forms, including direct copying, substantial paraphrasing without attribution, appropriation of ideas, and self-plagiarism, constitutes unethical publication behavior and is unacceptable.

3. Data Integrity

Authors must ensure that the reported data are accurate and authentic. Fabrication, falsification, manipulation, or inappropriate omission of research data is strictly prohibited. Authors may be asked to provide the raw data, ethical clearance, or other supporting documents for editorial review and should retain such data for a reasonable period after publication.

4. Multiple and Duplicate Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time, nor publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal. Prior posting of the manuscript as a preprint is permitted, provided that it is disclosed at submission.

5. Authorship

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, implementation, analysis, or interpretation of the study and to drafting or critically revising the manuscript. The contribution of each author should be stated using the CRediT taxonomy in the Title Page.

The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission. Any change to the author list after submission requires a written agreement signed by all authors. Persons who contributed to the research but do not meet the authorship criteria should be listed in the Acknowledgments.

6. Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must properly acknowledge all sources that have influenced the research or the manuscript. Information obtained privately, such as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, or in confidential services such as manuscript review, must not be used without explicit written permission from the source.

7. Conflict of Interest and Funding

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, institutional, or other interests that could be seen to influence the results or interpretation of their work, and must state all sources of financial support and the role of the funder. If there is none, the authors should state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

8. Research Involving Human Participants

Research involving human participants, including patients, nurses, students, families, and communities, must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and the national health research ethics guidelines. Authors must obtain ethical approval from an accredited Health Research Ethics Committee (Komisi Etik Penelitian Kesehatan/KEPK) before conducting the research and state the ethical approval number in the manuscript.

Authors must obtain informed consent from participants, or from parents or legal guardians where applicable, and must protect the privacy and confidentiality of participants. Identifiable information, such as names, photographs, or medical record numbers, must not be published without written consent for publication.

9. Use of AI

Authors who use AI tools in preparing the manuscript must disclose the tool and its purpose and remain fully responsible for the content, as described in the Policy on the Use of AI.   AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

10. Participation in Peer Review

Authors are obliged to participate in the peer-review process and to respond to the reviewers' and editors' comments in a timely and professional manner. Revised manuscripts must be accompanied by a response letter explaining how each comment has been addressed.

11. Fundamental Errors in Published Works

When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published article, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate with the journal to correct or retract the article.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Publisher

1. Publication Integrity and Editorial Independence

Poltekkes Kemenkes Semarang, as the publisher, supports the editors in maintaining the integrity and quality of the journal and does not interfere with editorial decisions. The publisher cooperates with the editorial team in addressing suspected publication misconduct.

2. Handling of Unethical Publication Practices

When credible evidence of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, or other serious misconduct is identified, the publisher and the editorial team will take appropriate action to protect the integrity of the scholarly record, including correction, expression of concern, withdrawal, or retraction, depending on the nature and severity of the case.

3. Open Access, Preservation, and Accessibility

The publisher ensures that all articles are freely accessible under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), as stated in the Copyright Notice, and are preserved in the long term through the journal website archive, the Internet Archive, and Garuda.

Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct

Jurnal Lintas Keperawatan (JLK) does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, or other forms of academic misconduct.

All submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin before peer review. Manuscripts with a similarity index above 20% are returned to the authors for revision. When substantial evidence of misconduct is identified, the editorial team will request clarification from the authors and take appropriate action based on the seriousness of the case, following the COPE flowcharts and the Plagiarism Policy.

Peer Review Process

The peer-review process ensures the scientific quality, originality, relevance, and integrity of published manuscripts. JLK applies double-blind peer review, in which the identities of the authors and reviewers are concealed from each other. Each research article is reviewed by at least two (2) reviewers selected based on their expertise in the relevant field of nursing. Details are available in the Peer Review Process.

Reviewers are expected to provide fair, objective, confidential, and constructive evaluations, and authors are expected to respond to the reviewers' comments professionally and in a timely manner.

Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

The journal maintains the integrity of its published scholarly record. When a significant error is identified after publication, the journal may publish a correction (erratum or corrigendum), an addendum, or an editorial note.

An article may be retracted when there is clear evidence of serious misconduct, major errors, plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate publication, or unethical research. Retraction notices are published in the next available issue and linked to the original article.

An expression of concern may be issued when there are serious unresolved questions about the integrity of a published article, but the available evidence is not yet sufficient to justify retraction. All such actions follow the journal's Retraction, Withdrawal, and Correction (R-W-C) Policy.

Ethical Oversight

Jurnal Lintas Keperawatan (JLK) expects all published research to comply with relevant ethical standards. Particular attention is given to nursing research involving patients, vulnerable populations (such as children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with mental health conditions), personal and medical data, and interventions requiring ethical oversight.

Authors are responsible for obtaining ethical approval from a Health Research Ethics Committee (KEPK) and the necessary permissions before conducting the research, and for reporting the ethical approval number, informed consent procedures, and other relevant ethical information in the manuscript. Manuscripts without adequate ethical approval, where it is required, will not be considered for publication.

Commitment to Publication Ethics

Jurnal Lintas Keperawatan (JLK) is committed to promoting responsible scholarly communication and maintaining a trustworthy scientific record in nursing. Authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and other stakeholders are encouraged to report suspected ethical violations to the editorial office through the Contact page.

All allegations of misconduct will be treated seriously and handled fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with COPE guidelines.

This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement is reviewed and updated periodically to remain consistent with developments in international publication ethics and best practices in scholarly publishing.
