Authorship Criteria

The Journal of Midwifery Science: Basic and Applied Research stipulates that authorship is granted to individuals who make intellectual and substantive contributions to the planning, implementation, evaluation, and drafting of articles resulting from community service activities. The determination of authorship must reflect each individual’s actual contributions and responsibility for the content of the published article.

All individuals listed as authors must meet the authorship criteria established by the journal. Conversely, individuals who meet the authorship criteria must not be omitted from the list of authors without a justifiable reason.

Authorship Criteria

An individual may be listed as an author of an article in the Journal of Midwifery Science: Basic and Applied Research if they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Substantive contribution to the activity. Making a meaningful contribution to the conception or design of the community service activity, the analysis of partner needs, the development of interventions, the implementation of the activity, data collection, evaluation, analysis, or interpretation of the activity’s results.
  2. Involvement in the preparation of the article. Participating in the drafting of the article or conducting a substantive review and revision of the article’s intellectual content, including methods, results, discussion, and conclusions.
  3. Approval of the final manuscript. Reading, approving, and giving consent to the final version of the article to be submitted for publication.
  4. Responsibility and accountability. Authors must be willing to take responsibility for their contributions to the article, help ensure the integrity and accuracy of the article’s content, and cooperate in addressing questions or issues regarding accuracy, validity, and publication ethics.

All authors must meet these four criteria. Individuals who make substantive contributions during the early stages of the research should be given the opportunity to participate in the drafting or revision of the article so that they can fully meet the authorship criteria.

Participation in fieldwork alone does not automatically confer authorship. Such contributions must be accompanied by fulfillment of all authorship criteria as outlined.

Order of Authors and Corresponding Author

The order of authors is determined by mutual agreement based on the extent of each individual’s scientific and intellectual contributions to the research and the drafting of the article. The determination of the order of authors is not based solely on position, seniority, academic status, or institutional standing.

The first author is generally the individual who made the primary contribution to the research and the preparation of the article, as agreed upon by the authors. The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the editor and journal management, ensuring the completeness of the submission documents, conveying information to all authors, and coordinating responses to the editorial process.

The corresponding author must ensure that all authors have approved the order of authorship, the content of the manuscript, and the submission of the article to the Journal of Midwifery Science: Basic and Applied Research.

Author Contributions Statement

Every article submitted to Journal of Midwifery Science: Basic and Applied Research must include a statement of contributions from each author. This statement must describe the actual contributions made during the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the study, as well as the preparation of the article.

Authors may use roles based on CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy), provided they align with the actual contributions. Relevant roles include:

Examples of contribution statements:

  • First author: conceptualization of the study, development of methods, conduct of the study, analysis of results, and preparation of the initial draft of the article.
  • Second author: conduct of the study, data collection and curation, interpretation of results, and substantive revisions to the article.
  • Third author: supervision of the study, validation of results, critical review, and manuscript revision.
