The elderly are individuals who have passed adulthood and are over 60 years of age. As individuals enter old age, they may experience various changes, including a decline in physical, psychological, and social functioning. This aging process occurs throughout the human body, including within the oral cavity—affecting both its structures and functions. One of the common problems in the oral cavity of the elderly is tooth loss. Tooth loss can disrupt normal activities and functions within the oral cavity. Significant tooth loss leads to a decline in masticatory function, particularly when the lost teeth are posterior teeth. Objective: To determine the relationship between tooth loss status and masticatory function quality among the elderly population (>60 years) in Setianegara Village, Tasikmalaya City. Method: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted on 30 elderly individuals in Setianegara Village, Tasikmalaya City, selected using consecutive sampling. Tooth loss status was measured by counting the number of remaining teeth; remaining roots were classified as missing teeth. Masticatory function quality was measured using a self-assessment questionnaire regarding complaints of xerostomia, difficulty chewing daily meals, difficulty chewing hard and soft foods, and avoidance of certain types of food. Statistical analysis used Spearman’s correlation test and independent samples t-test.
